Yarn Count System In Textile Industry

Q. What is the Yarn Count?
Ans. It's is the measurement of the yarn fineness.
a number is indicate the mass per unit length(Direct System) or length of unit mass(Indirect System) of yarn.

The yarn count mainly classified into two main categories:-

1.       1.Direct System
2.       2. Indirect System

1.Direct System:-   In this count system
*Linear Density is Proportional to the Yarn Count
                    *Count=mass/unit length
*In this system as the count no. increases the yarn become coarser.

Type of Direct Count System:-
a. Tex
b. Denier

a. Tex:-    Weight in gm in 1000 mtr. Length of the yarn.

b. Denier:-   Weight in gm. In 9000mtr. Length of the yarn.

2.Indirect System :-   In this count system
*Linear Density is inversely Proportional to the Yarn Count
                    *Count=Length/unit mass
*In this system as the count no. increases the yarn become more fine.

Type of Indirect Count System:-

a. English Cotton Count(Ne)
b. Matric Count(Nm)
c. Wrosted Count
d. Woollen Count(American Cut)
e.Woollen Count(American Run)
f. French Count(Nf)

a. English Cotton Count(Ne):- The no. of hanks of 840 yards in 1 pound weight of the yarn.

b. Metric Count(Nm):-The no. of hanks of 1000 mtr in 1kg weight of the yarn.

c. Worsted Count(Nw):-The no. of hanks of 560 yards in 1 pound weight of the yarn.

d. Woollen Count(American Cut):-The no. of hanks of 300 yards in 1 pound weight of the yarn.

e. Woollen Count(American Run):-The no. of hanks of 1600 yards in 1 pound weight of the yarn.

 f. French Count(Nf):- The no. of hanks of 1000 mtr in 1/2kg weight of the yarn.
