OBJECT:
Find out the hank of sliver and roving, estimate
the yarn count that can be spun from this and calculate the length of roving in
the package.
INSTRUMENT/TOOLS:
Wrap block, pocket weighing balance etc.
WORKING PRINCIPLE:
- Yarn count is a numerical value, which
express the coarseness and the fineness of a yarn and also indicate the
relation between length and weight of the yarn.
Linear
yarn density is determined by the mass of specified length of yarn and
expressed in count numbers in different systems. There are two count systems
direct and indirect count systems, direct system popularly includes Tex system
and Denier system while indirect system popularly includes the English cotton
count (Ne), Metric count (Nm) and Worsted count system.
PROCEDURE:
•
Measure the
sample of roving and sliver on wrap block of 15 yards and 5 yards respectively.
•
Make a
bundle of roving and sliver separately and weigh it on weighing balance.
•
Similarly
repeat the process for 3 samples for roving and 2 samples for sliver.
•
Calculate the
hank and count of yarn of yarn that can be spun.
RESULT:
Hank of
sliver.................................................
Hank of
roving..................................................
Estimated yarn count

PRECAUTIONS:
•
Weight
should be taken carefully.
Measure
the length of sliver and roving carefully on wrap block.
