Calculating Drape Coefficient Of Fabric Using BITRA Drape Meter

-:Bitra Drape Meter:-

OBJECT:-To find Drape coefficient of fabric by BITRA drapemeter.

APPARATUS:- Supporting disc, cover plate, scissors, sample, paper. Etc.

PRINCIPLE:- Drape is the ability of fabric to fall into graceful folds. It is the term used to describe the way fabric hangs under its own weight. It has an important effect on how a garment looks during wearing. The draping quality require for a fabric will differ completely depending on its end use. Therefore, a given value of drape can’t be classified as either good or bad measurement of a fabric. Drape means fabric ability to hang in graceful curves.

PROCEDURE:
1                    Cut the sample of 25cm dia. with the help of a disc.
2                    Cut circular hole in centre with the help of scissors.
3                    Now place the specimen in b/w the supporting disc and cover plate of dia. 12.5 cm .
4                    Move the plates up and down slowly at least 5 times.
5                    Then place the specimen with cover plate on the instrument & switch ON the lamp.
6                    Adjust the supporting disc holder screw so that the leading  edge of fabric & the paper should have a max distance of 2mm b/w them.
7                    After 5min. draw  the image of the shadow on the paper.
8                    Cut the image and weigh it .
9                    Note the weight & calculate drape coefficient.

RESULT:-

         1.     Drape co-efficient of fabric
Face            :
Back           :
        2.     GSM of fabric (sample)

PRECAUTIONS:

      1.     Draw the shadow area accurately.
      2.     Cut the drape area carefully.
