Details Explanation About Plain Weave

Plain Weave

Definition: - It is a simplest form of the weave. It is mostly used in weaving industries.
·         Wide range of verities in this weave like cambric, muslin, heavy blanket, canvas etc.
·         It is the simplest from all weaves, having a repeat size of 2.
·         The range of application of this weave is wide.

Characteristics:-
·         Cloth thickness and mass per unit area are limited.
·         In this weave have maximum no. of binding points.
·         The threads interlace in alternate order of 1 up and 1 down.
·         The thread density is limited.

       Examples:-

Uses:-
·         Plain weave finds extensive uses.
·         It is used in cambric, muslin, blanket, dhoti, saree, suiting, shirting etc.

Derivatives Of Plain Weaves: - The plain weave may be modified by extending it warp or weft way or both. The extension of the plain weave thus produce a rib effect.

1.      Warp Rib Structure :- This Structure produce by extending the plain weave in warp way direction.
Warp rib structure can be defined by two ways
I Regular         II.Irregular

I.Regular warp rib structure :
Weave - 2 up - 2 down (in warp side)

II. Irregular warp rib structure :-
Weave - 4 up - 2 down (in warp side)

2.      Weft Rib Structure :- This structure produce by extending the plain weave in weft direction.

Weft rib structure can be defined by two ways
I Regular         II.Irregular

I. Regular weft rib structure :- In this structure using a modified denting plan.Because of in actual denting plan rolling defect appear in fabric design. To remove this defect using a modified denting plan.

Weave - 2 up - 2 down (in weft side)

II. Irregular weft rib structure:-
Weave - 4 up - 2 down (in weft side)

3.Matt rib weave or Hopsack weave :- This weave known as hopsack or basket weave. This structure made from extending the plain weave in both (warp and weft) direction.

Matt rib structure can be defined by two ways
I Regular         II.Irregular

I. Regular matt rib structure :-
Weave - 2 up - 2 down (in warp side)

II. Irregular weft rib structure:-
Weave - 2 up - 2 down (in warp side)

Uses:-

Warp and weft rib:-
  • It is used in gross grain cloth, reap cloth, combric cloth etc.

Matt rib:-
  • It is use in variety of fabric such as dress materials, shirting, duck cloth, sail cloth etc.
