To Determine The Denier Of Given Man-Made Fibre By Gravimetric Method.

OBJECT:
To determine the denier of given man-made fibre by gravimetric method.
Estimate the yarn count spinnable from this fibre.

INSTRUMENT/TOOLS:
Glass slide, velvet pad, sartorious balance, steel scale etc.

WORKING PRINCIPLE:
Man-made staple fibre length is measured against a scale on velvet pad. Measured fibre samples are weighed on a sartorious balance (about 100 fibres).
The observed total length and weight is used to determine the count of samples (weight per unit length).
D = wt. of sample in gm.    x9000
Length of sample inmts

PROCEDURE:
Take slide and put a water drop on slide, gradually extract individual fibre from fibre bunch.
straighten the fibre on the slide.
Measure the fibre length with the help of steel scale by putting scale below the slide.
Put the measured fibres on clean velvet pad and repeat the process for100 fibres.
Collect the samples of individual fibres and weigh it on the sartorious balance.

RESULT:
Denier ……………………………………….
Length coefficient of variance % ………………………………………

PRECAUTIONS:
Make the slide and straightened the fibre carefully.
Measure the length carefully upto 0.5 mm accuracy.
        Don’t loose fibre samples.
        Weight the sample carefully.
