OBJECT:
To determine the denier of given man-made fibre
by gravimetric method.
Estimate the yarn count spinnable from this
fibre.
INSTRUMENT/TOOLS:
Glass slide, velvet pad, sartorious balance,
steel scale etc.
WORKING PRINCIPLE:
Man-made staple fibre length is measured against
a scale on velvet pad. Measured fibre samples are weighed on a sartorious
balance (about 100 fibres).
The observed total length and
weight is used to determine the count of samples (weight per unit length).

PROCEDURE:
•
Take slide
and put a water drop on slide, gradually extract individual fibre from fibre
bunch.
•
straighten
the fibre on the slide.
•
Measure the
fibre length with the help of steel scale by putting scale below the slide.
•
Put the
measured fibres on clean velvet pad and repeat the process for100 fibres.
•
Collect the
samples of individual fibres and weigh it on the sartorious balance.
RESULT:
Denier ……………………………………….
Length coefficient of variance % ………………………………………
PRECAUTIONS:
•
Make the
slide and straightened the fibre carefully.
•
Measure the
length carefully upto 0.5 mm accuracy.
•
Don’t loose
fibre samples.
•
Weight the
sample carefully.
